Hi All,
I hope someone can assist me. I have a 100km ultra trail in a few months and would like to extend the battery life of the watch while on this race. I'm expecting to be on the trail for about 24hrs where I will need to self navigate with the course loaded onto the watch. I know the watch says it can last 24 hrs in GPS mode, but that's probably cutting if very close and probably in UltraTrac mode.
I've previously tested the battery life of the watch in GPS mode (only GPS) on a 90km road run with no course navigation and all other sensors on, from a full battery, and the watch still had 50% battery at the end of my run. I can only assume that with course navigation, the battery life would've been a lot less at the end of that run.
I then also tested doing a 25km trail run with UltraTrac on (all other sensors also on) and enabled course navigation so I would follow the course which I loaded onto the watch. This run was for about 3h15min. However, at the end of the run the watch had lost 22% battery life, and the activity which uploaded to Garmin Connect was extremely accurate, as if GPS mode was enabled.
I was expecting the battery loss to be significantly less, considering it was in UltraTrac mode, and also the activity course to have more straight lines instead of an exact route being plotted.
Is there any way to make use of both the UltracTrac and Course Navigation functions together, while still getting good battery life out of the watch?
Kind Regards,
Denny
