Swimming

Hi!

Two questions when using the Forerunner245 in a 25 meters swimming pool:

(1) What can I do to increase the accuracy of the Forerunner245's lap count functionality? I've set the pool length to 25 meters but still: the lap count is very very inaccurate. Sometimes it is almost twice as high as it should be, sometimes it is too low. (e.g. I swam 1,5km but the clock told me I've swum 100 laps, which is 2,5km).

(2) When I'm setting the lap count to the right number (after the training), the pace entry becomes 0:00min/100m (instead of the correct value, e.g. 2:30min/100m). Why?

It would be really nice to find solutions for these issues.

  • Thanks for the reply.

    (1) The article says "Swim continuously throughout the length at a consistent pace" and "Continue to strive for a consistent stroke pattern". That's easier said than done. Since I'm not member of a swim club, I (just like probably the majority of all swimmers) need to share the swimming pool with dozens of other swimmers. Interruptions are the rule, not the exception. I wonder why the F245 doesn't seem to use GPS when there is a good connection (e.g. in case you're swimming outside). In 25m or 50m pools it should be easy to count the laps using GPS/Glonass/Galileo (either solely or as an additional source of information).

    (2) Any idea about this issue?

    Greetings

On the contrary, GPS is very inaccurate when there are frequent direction changes on such a short distance as 25 meters.

No. Probably something broken in garmin connect.

  • Poolswimming is bad. Accuracy is worthles.
