FileTransferError timeout: FR 245 syncing activities but not workouts, courses via iPhone Garmin Connect

I have had my Forerunner 245, which I use with iPhone Garmin Connect, for more than a year, with no problem. About a week ago, around the time I updated my software on device to 7.20, I would get "sync fail" messages, but the activity I had just run did sync with no problem. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max with GC 4.45.1.2. When I looked into the "fail" message further on the phone, I saw it said "FileTransferError timeout."

I also noticed I could not send workouts or courses directly to my watch from GC mobile anymore.

So I plugged my watch into my MacBook (OS 11.5.1), with USB cable, and synced it that way. Going through Garmin Express, the workouts and courses I had in queue to send to device did transfer over when plugged in with Garmin Express.

But I got an error message that identified 6 files with "invalid file type" that failed to upload, and were apparently interfering with the sync. I clicked on the links to first, identify those files in the device files, and then try to manually upload (they wouldn't upload because file type not supported). They were all .FIT files. So I then deleted those faulty files, emptied my activity folder for good measure, powered everything off and on again. AND STILL THE WORKOUTS AND COURSES DON'T SYNC VIA THE PHONE.

I called Garmin support two days ago and the technician ended up saying she'd have to elevate the problem and asked for some further details, screenshots, etc. I have attached the screenshot from my laptop with the error message and the list of dates of invalid files, which I then went in and rooted out. I am waiting for a reply from Garmin product support.

Has anyone else experienced this, and what did you do to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any insight.
