Syncing music from MacBook. Can it be done?!

Having finally bought a Forerunner 245 today, after considerable hesitation but with growing anticipation and excitement, I find after several hours of trying to 'sync' music from my MacBook that not a single song uploads. Instead, the Garmin Express spends ages - well, maybe 20-30 minutes, before crashing and needing to be restarted. Then the same happens. Endless waiting while the Garmin Express app assures me that it is is 'Loading music...' (ellipsis are there and are not accidental, I would say).

I dithered for a long time before buying this Garmin. The Forerunner 245 without music was €50 cheaper. I only bought the expensive option as I wanted to be able to carry and play MY music. And by that I meant not just whatever might be on Spotify (which of course itself requires a subscription for off-line listening, and I have no desire to pay such a subscription with this watch purchase already breaking my budget).

Can anyone please tell me: CAN one sync music (and I mean the simple mp3 files in one's own collection) from a MacBook? And, if so, where I am going wrong?

Thank you in advance for any kind replies.

  • You can just place the mp3 files on the watch manually. MacOS doesn’t natively support the MTP-protocol the watch uses like Windows so you’ll have to use some MTP-file browser app to do this.

Ironically the easiest MTP app to find for MacOS is the Android file transfer app (or whatever it’s called).

  • I tried the Android File Transfer app and, after a bit of fiddling around, actually got it to work! So, a solution!

Many, many thanks the tip.  ; )
