FR245 - Potentially defective contacts

Hey all!

I have loved my FR245 for the past two years, but I noticed some issues while charging it last week. Today, I had a closer look at the electric contacts at the back of the watch and noticed that they appear to be worn out (have a look at the picture). As a result, the watch will only charge if I push the cable slightly in a specific direction. This is especially annoying as it occurred after 2 years of using it and my previous FR235 did not suffer from similar issues (in fact, my dad still uses it without problems).

Has anyone else faced similar problems and, if so, is there a way to somehow fix it?

Thanks!

  • just compared these to my 245. the dimples on the contacts are unusual. you should try cleaning the contacts with alcohol and lightly brushing them to see if the corrosion can be removed. you may want to contact garmin customer support if that doesnt work.

Do you use a port cover that is often sold for garmins? i've heard those accelerate the corrosion

  • I have this as well, not as bad though. I bought my device on launch and haven’t used a port cover or anything
