Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Forerunner 245 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Forerunner245_685Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. Copy GUP3078.GCD from the RemoteSW folder to \Garmin\RemoteSW on the device.
  4. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  5. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE-620.GCD file in the \Garmin folder and rename GUPDATE-620.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD. Copy GUP3078-603.GCD from RemoteSW\Downgrades to \Garmin\RemoteSW on the device and rename to GUP3078.GCD. Disconnect the device to install. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • I've noticed that cadence measurement and recording seems to have stopped since installing this firmware. Anyone else getting this error?

  • Now that you've mentioned it, yes I've checked and had that happen.

I suspect it must be related to the green triangle crash that sometimes happens if you select the suggested workout from calendar notificatons. That seems to be doing a reboot, it does come back after a minute or two, but I'm not convinced it's doing a full restart when it happens. I only say that because I'd noticed last week that  body battery wasn't appearing in Garmin Connect and there was no data in it on the watch. After a proper power cycle the body battery on the watch said it was calculating and it reappeared in Garmin Connect after a sync.

My race at the weekend has cadence data, but I have activities earlier in the week that are missing the data and the dates are consistent with my body battery issue. So I suspect there may be a number of functions that are not running properly after one of those crashes.

If you've had one of those crashes from the suggested workout, when the watch comes back, do a normal power off and power back on and that may cure the cadence issue.

  • I have no issues with cadence measurement and recording now they've correct the metronome interference.  My issue is that my alarms are not vibrating at the set time.

  • has any one noticed their battery draining quicker after 6.85 update?

  • Another one who can't read the changelog...

  • How have I not read the change log but my question?  How do you know I didn't fill out the form and am also posting a reply here to see if anyone else experienced the same observation?

  • Some people just come onto this forum to be rude. Not sure what they get out of it.

  • Yup exactly.....I know full well this is beta software that could be prone to bugs. And is this comment section not meant to share experiences with the update to see if we find common behaviors? My whole point was to find out if others have noticed the same thing before I try the next troubleshooting step of either a watch reset or revert the firmware. If there is anything in the change log anywhere that would indicate this is a known bug by all means show me

  • I must admit, that I have to apologize to you. I could swear in your older post there was "body battery" written and not just "battery". Because the body battery metrics changed which was indicated in the changelog. But the battery itself is not. So I clearly made a mistake. Sorry for that. Did not read carefully enough or my mind played a trick on me.

On the other hand. Batterylife is always a pain in regards of beta software. Since the final is already released hope it will work there.

  • its cool dont worry about it.    I am hopeful its just that its a beta version and not a negative effect from one of the changes to how they are calculating active minutes and body battery but we'll see!  since i'm new to Garmins beta firmware, now that I'm on a beta , once the next official release comes out will i need to revert back to the official released version to get the auto update to the latest or will i just get the latest when it comes out?
