Forerunner 245 Music 6.2 and Jaybird Vista Headphones - unreliable connection

My Jaybird vistas used to work fine with my 245M until about 3 months ago. Now they continually disconnect from the watch. I dont need to be in an activity, just sat at my desk not moving and give them a minute or two (or 10 secs sometimes) and I get the dreaded 'Not Connected' message. Reconnection is very hit and miss. Sometimes it wont reconnect unless I turn the watch off - not great mid run

Done all the hard reset nonsense - doesnt work and its obviously a bug. V6.2 firmware is supposed to fix this problem - it doesnt !

How hard can it be to test this and make it work ?

  • I have the same problem with forerunner 245 and vista... Started last october or november ! I have been running all winter with my phone and now tried with FR245 this week. Music still dropping after 1 to 4 minutes...

So annoying to pay this much for crap software!

  • The Jaybird Vista issue has been a now longstanding one for many users. You can find similar posts across these forums.

My Vistas began intermittently dropping connection in December. Since then I’ve tried all the things. I don’t connect them with my phone. I’ve removed their Bluetooth profile from my phone. I’ve turned Bluetooth off on my phone prior to removing the Vistas from their case. I’ve removed and re-added the Vistas to my FR245M.

The most persistent solution I have found is this:

Remove any Vista connection to your phone and to your Garmin device. Then do a FULL reset of your Vistas. To do this, place the Vistas in their case, hold the pairing button until it blinks white. Then double press the button so that it turns pink. When it’s pink, close the case for a few seconds. Then open the case, navigate to the Add Headphones screen on your Garmin device, and place the Vistas in pairing mode by holding the pairing button until it blinks white. Once paired with your Garmin device, use as normal.

This process has previously kept my Vistas working without drops for over a month. However, drop issues WILL happen again at some point. When they do, perform the process above.

I am not a Bluetooth expert, but clearly something is eventually corrupting the Bluetooth connection file with Garmin devices and it must be reset through a full Vista reset. Since I am not connecting my Vistas to any internet connection via my phone, I can only assume this is a Garmin issue.

  • Well I gave this a go - my connection unfortunately lasted about 30 secs before I got the 'Not Connected' lady again. Shame

  • Sorry to hear that. I wish Garmin would figure this out or at least be more communicative about the issue. Multiple forums have people posting about this issue, which has been happening since late last year.

  • Just some information, that probably wont help you but still I wanted to share.

I have been using the Vista's for a year now and have almost zero issues. No issues with connecting, no reconnecting also.

Using them 4 times a week while cycling and running.

Only little issue is when other Bluetooth devices are nearby passing the audio sometimes drops for 0.5 sec

Watch is on left wrist and I also use the vista's from my Phone. No issues connecting them or switching while connected to garmin or visa versa.

Too bad this doesnt seem to be the case for everyone but I would recommend the vista to everyone based on my experience

  • Thanks for sharing your experience. I used to believe my own connection issue had to do with interference from other Bluetooth devices nearby. I even stopped our mail carrier to ask if she wore Bluetooth headphones since my Vistas dropped the moment I passed her parked vehicle one day—and she was in fact wearing AirPods. But it has also too often been the case that my connection drops when there are no other devices nearby to speak of. No cars passing, no other people. It has happened when I’m passing by an empty field.

  • Go to the sticky on the Fenix 6 forum and let Garmin know if affects your 245 too.

  • Same issue with me and my Jaybird Vista and 245 Music. Was fine for 6 months, then started dropping.

    Some things I have observed:

    • It seems to always drop after the same time period (roughly 2-3 minutes into my run)
    • Does not drop if I am listening to them without doing an exercise (i.e. not running). Seems to be tied to the use of GPS. Once I start a run, they drop after the aforementioned interval
    • A hard re-set on the Jaybird Vista seems to work. But as one the user said, this is not a permanent fix. Last time it last me about 2 months before the dropping resumed
    • I usually cannot reconnect when it drops and I am on a run. Only seems to work if i stop running/moving which again seems to suggest it may be tied to some sort of interference with the GPS
    • Sometime I loose the volume meter/scale (it turns into a + an - only). This is normally a harbinger of it dropping later on my run.

I'm not a technical guy, but with this information, someone at GARMIN who is a technical engineer, should be able to DMAIC this to a root cause with the information I have provided.
