Workout scheduled late in the day will not sync

I've had trouble synchronizing a scheduled workout that I plan to do the same day. After seeing this a few times, I believe it is a timezone issue.

If I add a workout to my schedule for the current day it shows up on my Forerunner 245 but only if I add it early in the day. If I add it later, I don't think it has ever worked.

My suspicion is that if the current time is past midnight UTC, the watch does not sync items scheduled for the previous day (in UTC), even though I'm still living that day. In my case, I'm in US/Mountain time so scheduling a workout after 5-6PM (depending on daylight savings) never seems to work.

As a work-around, I can explicitly send the workout to my device and then it transfers and is available as an option, just not today's scheduled activity. This works but has two issues.

  1. I have to remember this issue and the work-around.
  2. I have to remember to delete the workout when the device memory starts to fill up.

I'm hoping that Garmin can investigate / confirm this and if true, this post might help others.

  • I am having a similar issue.  I entered a month's worth of workouts into my calendar and for the most part they all work fine unless I try to do them late in the day.  When it is after around 6 PM CST the workouts do not appear on my training calendar but if I run early in the day they are always on my Training Calendar.  I have gone so far as to check them during the day and they are there up until I try to actually use them in the evening. I suspect a similar time zone issue.  I am using a Fenix 5.  Did your issue ever get resolved?

  • I still have this issue. My issue seems slightly different than yours. If I schedule a workout far enough in advance, it will always show up on the scheduled day, not just certain times of day. But if I schedule a workout for the current day, late in the day, it will never show up.

  • You have suggested the reason for a possibly related issue I have with scheduled workouts. It may help you with a workaround.  When I go for my run in the morning, I just hit the start-stop button as if to start a run, and it suggests the scheduled workout.  But if I go late in the day it's not there. I have to press start-stop on Run, then hold UP, then scroll to Training, hit start-stop, scroll to Training Calendar, start-stop, and then I can scroll to the run on the day.

  • Ugh, that information is applicable to the FR245. I didn't notice that I was in the wrong forum.

  • I have the same issue on my Fenix 5.  I manually scheduled 18 weeks of workouts and it seems if I try to start one after 9 PM CST they are not visible and if I press the up arrow I can see the previous day's workout and scroll to the next scheduled workout but there doesn't seem to be a way to see the current day's workout.  As long as I do the workout before around 9 PM CST it seems to be fine.  I first thought that it could be a time zone issue but if that were the case I would think that "today's workout" would show up as a previous workout but it does not, makes me think that there is a conflict in the coding between the website, app and watch because the workout is on the website and app but just not visible on the watch. The only solutions I can think of now are to move to a cooler climate or start my workouts earlier.

It is interesting that you have the same issue on the Fenix 5.
