Bluetooth music connection issues

Hi all,

I've been a Forerunner 245M user for almost 2 years and never had any problems with my bluetooth connection while running. Nowadays my bluetooth connection is horrible, it stutters a lot and listening to music is unbearable while running outdoors (indoors everything is fine). First I thought my Redmi airdots where broken but I have tried a lot of different buds and they all stutter. Is my device broken or? I saw someone suggesting to wear my watch on my right wrist and this seems to work but I don't feel like wearing it to my right wrist, especially since it worked flawless before..

Is there a solution for this problem?

Software version 6.20 (7ae543d)

Tested buds:

- Redmi Airdots 2 (Not working)
- Samsung Bud+ (Not working)
- Jabra 65T (Not working
- JBL Free 2 (Not working)
- Apple Airpods (Not working)
- JBL Reflect Mini (Not working)

Strange thing is that the Apple & JBL Reflect mini will play flawless if you only connect 1 (left) bud and as soon as you connect the right bud the stutter begins..

I'm really annoyed and hopefully Garmin has a solution.

  • Only the older true wireless have issus, my sony wf100xm4 works perfectly fine but the version before has massive issues

  • As mentioned, I've been experiencing issues with my Jabra earbuds cutting out only after upgradimg to 8.2 and having my watch on my left hand. Worked 100% of the time prior to 8.2 with the watch on my left hand.

Just upgraded to 9 last night. Started a run today with gps and my Jabra earbuds again and kept the watch on my left hand.  Worked fine 80% of the time now, only cut out for 1/2 second if I extended my left arm away from my body or placed it behind to back.

So for me, seems like the update made a substantial difference, but still not as good as it was prior to the 8.2 update.

  • So strange, but I tried running with the watch on my right hand instead of left and it worked fine.  I don't get that.  I'm going to try on my left hand (normal wear) and see if it's any better.

  • Yeah some earbuds (Jabra included) have the Bluetooth receiver in the right earbud and work better with the watch closer--on the right hand. But prior to the 8.2 upgrade I never had issues with the watch on my left hand. After the 8.2 upgrade I've had to move my watch to my right hand because of the issue. Sounds crazy, but the watch on my right hand just doesn't feel comfortable. Just wish it worked as well as the pre 8.2 upgrade.

  • Same here. Tried with firmware 9  and OnePlus Buds Pro, when I'm running and I raise my hands the sound is ok but when I lower them (for ex. during walking) the sound becomes choppy. It's apparently a low power bt issue, maybe to rescue some battery but the distance is so short, less than 1 meter: it's not acceptable

  • Best solution for this issue is uninstall airpod's App from your phone Thumbsup and delete the airpod from phone 's Bluetooth. And not install it again Wink

Delete it and reconnect it to Garmin watch. And Don

There's some still there but better than before Relaxed

  • I have the exact same problem with the Forerunner 245 Music. This is infuriating. The Bluetooth audio for music when running worked perfectly for the first year or so when running with headphones. Now it is unusable due to constant audio cutting out, with multiple different pairs of BT headphones.

This has been going on for years apparently and it's a known issue (see link below), and Garmin has not done anything about it? Wtf? For a $400 watch?

Here is a link where they acknowledge it's a known issue and offer to "exchange" for you.

    https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=IPRNbnvtEE6GZ1qtHKtbV7

I went through the first couple steps, only to find that they try to charge you $130 for the "exchange." F*** you, Garmin.

I loved Garmin but I guess now I'll write some poor reviews of the 245M and buy their competitors watches instead. I talked to customer service just now and they said since it's past the 1 year warranty period they cannot do anything. Really? You sell a $400 watch and don't think people should expect the Bluetooth to work for more than a year?

  • Did anyone find a solution to this?  I'm about ready to junk the POS and get me a Google watch!

  • No solution that I've found do make it work as expected. Instead I move the watch to my right hand whenever I need the music and GPS, and it works with my headphones (Jabra 75t) that have the receiver in the right ear. Originally everything worked fine with my headphones and my watch on either hand, but something changed over a year ago and it still won't work today with the watch on my left hand (only a foot or two further away from the earphone receiver).

  • Thanks for the reply.  I actually moved my watch to my right hand but had no luck.  I'm currently using pixel buds series a but have tried others as well.  Still the same results.  It's really frustrating cuz it was working perfectly and I really like the watch!
