Bluetooth music connection issues

Hi all,

I've been a Forerunner 245M user for almost 2 years and never had any problems with my bluetooth connection while running. Nowadays my bluetooth connection is horrible, it stutters a lot and listening to music is unbearable while running outdoors (indoors everything is fine). First I thought my Redmi airdots where broken but I have tried a lot of different buds and they all stutter. Is my device broken or? I saw someone suggesting to wear my watch on my right wrist and this seems to work but I don't feel like wearing it to my right wrist, especially since it worked flawless before..

Is there a solution for this problem?

Software version 6.20 (7ae543d)

Tested buds:

- Redmi Airdots 2 (Not working)
- Samsung Bud+ (Not working)
- Jabra 65T (Not working
- JBL Free 2 (Not working)
- Apple Airpods (Not working)
- JBL Reflect Mini (Not working)

Strange thing is that the Apple & JBL Reflect mini will play flawless if you only connect 1 (left) bud and as soon as you connect the right bud the stutter begins..

I'm really annoyed and hopefully Garmin has a solution.

  • For me at least, it was definitely a hardware failure. It worked fine for years until it didn't and no amount of resetting or rolling back helped at all. I contacted Garmin and they swapped it out for a new watch and the problem was completely gone. All of my headphones started working flawlessly.

  • Same issue, tried contacting Garmin Support in the UK who were useless. Today when the music cut out on Bluetooth earbuds, the watch reset itself as well. This is simply getting worse. Best guess is a software update that wasn't tested properly on all hardware versions. If you can get the watch swapped out for the current hardware and software it'll probably work. New software with an older hardware build is not the same story. So frustrated.

  • There have been several posts here complaining on bluetooth headset connection, and I'm very disappointed that Garmin hasn't yet given an acceptable solution. It's clearly a HW failure, they should treat it more seriously with an official firmware update or recall/replace all the product. Period

  • Hello! I am also suffering Bluetooth connection issues when using a GPS enabled training program. It's just not acceptable for a piece of hardware that is the music version. Haven't contacted dutch support yet, but wanted to show myself as a user with the same issues here. Fingers crossed that it will be fixed soon!

  • anyone tried the beta 8.02? is this fixed? I have Vistas 2 and I'm really getting sick of this bug...

  • Same issues. Just bought the watch.  Using Jabra Elite Active 75T. Never had an issue with other watches or devices.  I cannot run with them any longer.  Look forward to the fix.

There is a fix. Connect your watch to your pc. Let it update through their and not automatically through Bluetooth /WiFi. You can even be on the phone with customer support and they can check that the updates are applied correctly. My 245 music issue is resolved. Works perfectly.

  • Didn't changed anything in the GPS mode

  • I did a hard reset and updated using my pc, I still have the same issues. Garmin, please provide a real solution through a software update or a hardware repair. With the latest software version, the garmin forerunner 245 music doesn't seem able to play music and track a gps activity simultaneously.

Guys please tell here if the solution suggested (hard reset + pc update) solved your issues ?

    Many thanks.

  • I found out that gps does nothing change anything. It's only because the training mode is opened. So this is just a Software problem. I found out because i disabled Gps and opened the training mode and Bluetooth began tho stutter again.
