Bluetooth music connection issues

Hi all,

I've been a Forerunner 245M user for almost 2 years and never had any problems with my bluetooth connection while running. Nowadays my bluetooth connection is horrible, it stutters a lot and listening to music is unbearable while running outdoors (indoors everything is fine). First I thought my Redmi airdots where broken but I have tried a lot of different buds and they all stutter. Is my device broken or? I saw someone suggesting to wear my watch on my right wrist and this seems to work but I don't feel like wearing it to my right wrist, especially since it worked flawless before..

Is there a solution for this problem?

Software version 6.20 (7ae543d)

Tested buds:

- Redmi Airdots 2 (Not working)
- Samsung Bud+ (Not working)
- Jabra 65T (Not working
- JBL Free 2 (Not working)
- Apple Airpods (Not working)
- JBL Reflect Mini (Not working)

Strange thing is that the Apple & JBL Reflect mini will play flawless if you only connect 1 (left) bud and as soon as you connect the right bud the stutter begins..

I'm really annoyed and hopefully Garmin has a solution.

  • Same here - 245 music - wireless headphones - stuttering, disconnects. I am returning the headphones but I am serously annoyed with the Garmin seeing as it was bought for this specific purpose.. WIsh I could return the watch instead and buy another model!

  • Yeah, it definitely seems to be related to the GPS. Mine works fine right up until the moment I start a run activity and it starts looking for a signal. Did they break something in a recent update? Or is this a hardware failure or something? Has anyone tried contacting Garmin about a replacement?

This is so frustrating. It worked great for years and now the music part is completely unusable.

  • Exact same problems that many others have had.  Indoors they work perfect, but I don't run indoors.  I purchased the 245M back in May 2020 and had it replaced in Jan 2021 due to this issue.  It worked flawlessly for the first 6 months of ownership and then started acting up.  They exchanged it with no hassle.  I ran with the replacement from January thru late April and it worked perfect outdoors.  In the last 2 weeks it started acting up again.  Did everything they told me to, update, reset but of course didn't help.  Indoors its perfect but outdoors not so good.  Didn't pay attention to whether I have a GPS signal or not but I have no intentions of running with a GPS watch with GPS turned off.  Just chatted today with Garmin and they are replacing it again with a refurb.  I expect it to work for 4-6 months and then crap out.  I asked about that concern and they told me they would probably replace it again if it happens since I've had this issue before and its documented, regardless of warranty date.  Will just see how long that will go on.  I hope everyone with an issue and still under warranty requests a replacement so they can feel the heat and look for a solution.

  • For me the problem get bigger if I run with an Garmin HRM4-run strap. Without it only cracks up the sound a few times but with it is totally a bad music experience. Anyone having same kind of experience with the ANT cheats straps?

  • Same issue with me.  No issues until two weeks ago during my first marathon which was unbelievably annoying.  Has anyone had a response from Garmin?

  • I have the exact same issue. All is good until the activity starts. But then, connections between L&R drop out every few seconds. It is even worse than listening to a scratched CD in the old days.

  • Yep. This is infuriating. I bought these for one reason only, to listen to music while running. They don't do the one thing I wanted.

  • I have no stutter issues but I lose connection within a few minutes after I start a workout. Most of the time I reconnect and everything is fine after that. Not really an issue from my point of view, especially compared to the experience in this thread.

I use JBL Reflect Flow earbuds and Spotify as my music provider.

  • I opened a ticket with Garmin support and they offered to exchange my watch for a new one without hesitation even though I'm well past the 1 year warranty period.

  • Same issue here. Worked great, then in April the headphones started to crackle just as the watch looks for GPS signal. Sonys and KZs.
