Bluetooth music connection issues

Hi all,

I've been a Forerunner 245M user for almost 2 years and never had any problems with my bluetooth connection while running. Nowadays my bluetooth connection is horrible, it stutters a lot and listening to music is unbearable while running outdoors (indoors everything is fine). First I thought my Redmi airdots where broken but I have tried a lot of different buds and they all stutter. Is my device broken or? I saw someone suggesting to wear my watch on my right wrist and this seems to work but I don't feel like wearing it to my right wrist, especially since it worked flawless before..

Is there a solution for this problem?

Software version 6.20 (7ae543d)

Tested buds:

- Redmi Airdots 2 (Not working)
- Samsung Bud+ (Not working)
- Jabra 65T (Not working
- JBL Free 2 (Not working)
- Apple Airpods (Not working)
- JBL Reflect Mini (Not working)

Strange thing is that the Apple & JBL Reflect mini will play flawless if you only connect 1 (left) bud and as soon as you connect the right bud the stutter begins..

I'm really annoyed and hopefully Garmin has a solution.

I don't have a solution but I can tell you that I had the same issue on a 245 music with my Airpods. I didn't bother looking for a fix and returned it. It sounds like it might be related to an update though.

  • I have also had this issue with Jabra 65T's it seams to be only when GPS is on

  • Have the same issues with the Jabras 65 and 75 Elite. Wear my 245M on your left wrist. Sound only stutters in GPS mode. If I wear it on the right then it's a little better. I bought the Soundcore Life A1 from Anker. I don't have any more problems with that. Probably because they have a receiver on the right and left.

  • Also my experience with Jabra 75 Eilte. If I try to move the watch closer to my headphones the lacking is less - together with an awkward running style

  • Same issue. I have Powerbeats Pro and never had issues last year. I get static and music pausing automatically when GPS is on. No issues before my runs, but as soon as GPS is green, my issues start. I'm going to try different earbuds on my next run, but this issue has ruined 4/5 runs so far this year. I had one run where there was static, but music never stopped. Pretty sure I did nothing different that run.

  • No solution from me, but I just wanted to add so that Garmin can see another person has this problem.

I've had the 245M since release and never had an issue. Didn't run much last year and then started again in March. Headphones work inside, but as soon as I'm outside and start my workout then the music drops in and out constantly. I've tried two differed headsets AirPods Pro and Plantronics Backbeat Fit. Same result for both.

I'm getting tired of holding my phone while running Garmin! Please fix this issue!

  • I'm using Bose Sound sport and since the latest software update on my 245M's the Bluetooth connection is definitely worse. Some interference and drop outs. Now have to change wrist to get the watch on the same side as the Bluetooth receiver on the earphones. Hope Garmin read these and sort it out soon

  • I've got a brand new 245M yesterday and I have similar issue - the music is choppy with some cracks every few seconds. Not what I expected tbh.

  • Same situation for me. The earphones i am using are the Plantronics BackBeat FIT 3200 and in a good time i will hear this crackling while listening to songs via spotify, and worst case is skips of whole segments of the songs.  Haven't experienced any drops of connections, yet.

I have tried to go back in BT version, but it seems the process is not working (placing the GUP3293.GCD file in RemoteSW folder). Watch is not picking it up at all. There is an additional GCD file there, not sure if I should remove that one for the watch to pick up the BT downgrade.

  • I'm seeing the same thing. I've been running with my 245M for almost 2 years and during that time I've used Jabra Elite 65ts and Apple Airpods Pro with it and had no issues. All of the sudden as of a maybe 2 weeks ago, it's basically completely unusable. It drops out constantly.
