Integrating a Music Quality Setting for Spotify on the 245 Music

I've seen it voiced in the forum that there is a noticeable discrepancy between the music from Spotify, as an app on a phone, that is paired with Bluetooth earphones compared to the quality experienced when listening to the Spotify app on the 245 Music watch.

I use Sennheiser Momentum 2 TW Buds for reference and it's obvious to me that the 'very high' quality available on the app on the phone is noticeably higher audio fidelity than the standard imposed by the watches app.

This essentially stunts the music label on the watch for me. I'd much prefer to use my earbuds with my phone and Spotify if it means I can experience the best in sounds quality Spotify has to offer.

I'm asking that a quality setting is integrated into the app settings on the watch. This would allow the user to choose less songs with higher quality or more songs with less. I don't mind at all this means a lower capacity of songs. I feel many would think the same. Just to be given the option to select the highest quality available would be an excellent addition.

Otherwise some clarification to the technical limitations of this feature would be welcome to know.

When I exercise, it would be better not to bring my phone with me to listen to music. All that requires for me is the 'very high' quality to be an option when downloading music to the watch.

  • Try manually adding a 320kbps mp3 to compare because I noticed the watch does not sound as good as iPod Shuffle 4th Gen using same earphones.

  • Try manually adding a 320kbps mp3 to compare because I noticed the watch does not sound as good as iPod Shuffle 4th Gen using same earphones.

  • That's interesting. I will try that to see how it preforms. If that's true, having a high quality option for Spotify wouldn't change the quality.
Most of my music library is on Spotify. So to add 320kbps files from there means ripping songs from Spotify, i.e. playing the song in its entirety on my computer, recording, saving, naming the files then uploading them to the watch. Not the best user experience. I'll give it a shot though (done this before with a Samsung Gear s3) and if it sounds no different then I'll just use my phone as I have been.

I don't think everyone would notice the difference. For me, I really apricate higher sound quality.

  • Hello, the problem in quality is with whatever you use to play music on the watch.

    I have tried MP3 320 Kbps/Spotify/Dizzer.

All sounded almost the same - highs are not clear.

Tested the same in-ears (2-3 pairs) vs phone/laptop/tv.

It is something on the bluetooth of the watch itself either software (DSP) or hardware

Users have reported that 645/945 have better quality

  • I stuck to foobar2000 and 3TB drive of music something like 700,000 songs in FLAC so the qaulity should be very good on the 945. I have wrtten posts before about it and people can't tell or don't care enough for running but I can notice the difference easily. I still use wired earpods and ipod shuffle as it sounds better and more musical.

I also pass each song that goes to the watch trhough a boosted bass EQ in foobar which makes the earpods sound 10x better which you can't do on spotify.

Listen to Two Steps from Hell - Color the Sky on the 945 is sounds crackly.

Or Clint Mansel - Leaving Earth that sounds crackly too right from the start.

  • I bought a 945 thinking it will have better qaulity than 245 but they sound exactly the same.

  • For someone who usually listens to music on HD 650's, I care and notice the difference. It's disappointing but I guess there is an audience for listening to music as on these watches.

  • I love HD650 I've been using for 14 years, though I wouldn't run or expect anyhwere close to their qaulity but Apple Earpods + ipod Shuffle 4th Gen sounds 90% as good.

  • Are you expecting the 245 to sound like an Astell and Kern?

  • Well no. I had a misconception about how Bluetooth audio works I think? I thought a digital signal was sent over Bluetooth and the DAC was on the earphones themselves. In other words I thought my buds would sound the same paired to any device/player. Believing that I thought the music files were just overly compressed on my watch. But from reading others replies, that must not be the case. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
