Getting an accurate HR on my 245 has been an annoying thing for the year I've had it. In order to get the most accurate reading, I have to move the strap towards my elbow a few inches and really tighten down the strap so it's as far away from my wrist bone as possible. Even then, it'll jiggle around enough to dislodge and creep back towards my wrist and I have to constantly push it back towards my elbow during my run.
Enter the Polar OH1+ which seems perfect. On an initial couple of runs, I recorded HR data from my 245 as well as the OH1+ with the 245 at my normal everyday wear position closer to my wrist bone. The 245's data was, predictably, all over the place while the OH1+'s data was steady. On one slower-paced, even-keeled run 40 minute run, the 245 recorded my HR between 145-195bpm for the middle 20 minutes while the OH1+ never had me go over 145bpm and my overall bpm was 10 lower than the 245's recording.
On the next run, I tried pairing the OH1+ directly to the 245. I connected it, got the confirmation that it paired, and when I was starting my run, the 'ext HR connected' notice came on and the heart icon came on. But during my run, I could see that the display constantly read "--" for the HR. The connection would go dead for some reason until I turned my wrist enough to "wake" my watch to the point where the light automatically comes on. This resulted in a crazy looking graph.
Anyone else have this problem? What am I doing wrong? Is there a setting to keep the connection active during the duration of an activity? Will I have to just record activities separately?
