245 Music issue: removed music still tries to play

I updated the music on my 245M using Windows Media Player. I have WMP set to shuffle what syncs, meaning since the playlist I'm trying to sync is larger than will fit on the 245M, some songs are deleted, and some are added. As an aside, I also have the Windows Media Player set to compress the music so more will fit on the device, and additionally the music is on a network server. The way I'm using My Music (shuffle, compress, network) prevents me from using Garmin Express to download the music.

When playing from the 245M (Play All Songs, shuffle), I notice some songs would queue up on the device, but not play. I can skip these but it's pretty annoying that I have to skip some songs.

I investigated with one of the songs this occurred with, and see the following:

  • when I view the artist on the 245M I see the song as one of the artist's songs
  • when I look for the song on the device using Windows File Manager or using Garmin Express, the song isn't on the device

I surmise that there is some playlist somewhere on the device which points to the song, but didn't realize that the song had been deleted from the device. A dangling pointer, as we software engineers would say.

Is there any way to reset the device's "all songs" playlist to the songs which are actually on the device?
