Battery life issue 245M - new issue

I noticed recently, maybe last week or so, that battery is draining with 245M, which is new and I assume due to a recent software update. I am using the same way I always did, but saw with 14 mile run a week ago that battery was only 24% after run. My process was to recharge after each run. Before each run I would start gps and music, then get ready to run which would take a while. Since I noticed the problem I've been keeping close track and see my prerun activity takes 20+% of the battery (can't compare to before as I don't have the stats).

So since yesterday I've been topping off battery in morning, then not starting gps/music until just before going out the door to mitigate this new issue. I'm seeing 3.2% to 3.7% battery loss per mile. This will get me thru a 20 miler, but still thought you should be aware that something has changed which negatively impacts the battery life.

Currently at v 5.50, not sure which release was working properly.

  • I am facing the same issue. Three hours of cycling dropped battery from 100% to 58%. Following night it went down from 50% to 10% in just 8 hours of doing nothing. I do not use any phone notification, so connection was disabled for the whole time.

5.40 worked fine. This issue started with 5.50.

  • Just so it is clear, my new issue was evident with 5.40 as well as 5.50. It was also seen before 5.40 was installed. I wasn't tracking releases carefully before I noticed this but since I do plug in to the laptop almost every day, the releases have been kept current as Garmin Express pushes them.

  • I think I'm experiencing this issue as well.  I've never had an issue with battery life before and late last night received the 10% battery life notice.  I was going to charge the device this morning but it didn't even make it through the night.  Earlier in the day the watch had 40% battery so this was a pretty quick fall off.  I also was recently updated to 5.50.

I've also noticed an increase in battery drain since the 5.50 update, but on the non-music 245. It has dropped 22% in the past 5 hours while not doing any activity.

  • 245 Running (no pun intended) v. 5.50 since yesterday, no battery issues so far.

But, for some reason I utterly don't know, it didn't record my HR for the past night sleep time.
