Forerunner 245 - frequently disconnecting from Bluetooth

I have a non-music forerunner 245. These last few days, my week frequently disconnects from Bluetooth. It's happens intermittently, it's randomly disconnecting and reconnecting throughout the day.

I just did a full factory reset on my watch this morning and I'm still having the same issue.

Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

  • same problem with my 245.  It happens all the time, even when my phone if in my pocket.  I had an iphone7 and it was doing this.  Upgraded to an iPhone10 and it is still happening.  245 has the latests software updates.  Why has Garmin not addressed this?!

  • Why has garmin not addressed this when so many of us are having this issue?  I have 245, not music.  This happens constantly during the day, even when my phone is in my pocket.  I have latest software updates on my watch and phone.  Was happening with my old iPhone7 and now my iPhone13.

  • I have had my 245 since October, 2020.  No problem with it whatsoever, until a few days ago (1/11/2023) when I noticed that my 245 wasn't getting some of the notifications from my phone.  Today (1/14/2023), my 245 started informing me that it's disconnected from the phone every time it is more than 8 feet from my phone.  I come back closer to the phone and the watch will reconnect.  I tested my phone with other bluetooth devices and they all stay connected even when I am over 50 feet away and on a different floor in my house.  So I don't think the issue is with my phone.

  • My 245 music started persistently disconnecting Jaybird Vista from the update to the firmware version 11.60.

Is there any way to downgrade the firmware or some other way to fix it?

I guess it might work better if Garmin allows users to work on fixing this issue if they feel difficult to fix this.

  • Currently I have found only one way to stop the disconnects with Jaybird Vista 1 and that is to have music offline on the watch with Spotify Premium or some other way, then disable all sensors. Wifi, bluetooth, sync, phone whatever all needs to be off.

  • Thanks for sharing. I am just using the default player to play mp3 files. Anyways, I will try turning off all the other connectivity stuff next time.

  • Has there been a fix for this?  I had this problem with my Garmin Forerunner 245 and Iphone 11.  Once I upgraded my phone to Iphone 14 Pro, I still have the same problem.

It's really annoying and I'm tempted to go to Apple Watch if you can't get your *** together.

  • I never had  this issue again, works great for me

  • This is still happening today. Very disappointing, am considering going with a different brand instead of upgrading to another Garmin, since it's a known issue, there's an "exchange" link where Garmin tries to charge you $130 (https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=IPRNbnvtEE6GZ1qtHKtbV7), and customer service told me there's nothing they can do since it's outside the 1 year warranty program. Obviously it's not unreasonable for me to expect that the Bluetooth on a $400 watch will work for more than 1 year. WTF

  • This issue has obviously been going on for over 2 years since that is the last time that Garmin deemed it fit to respond.  Frustrating that as a consumer we invest in this technology trusting in the Garmin name and there is such a perceived lack of concern on their end.  I wish I had known this before purchasing this my Forerunner..........you can bet that my next purchase will be with a competitive product.
