Activity storage almost full. Upload to Garmin Connect message

Few months ago i got the "Activity storage almost full. Upload to Garmin Connect" message on my 245.  So i connected the watch to my laptop, and deleted some Fit files and all was good.

Last night i got the message again so now i have deleted all the Fit files and we will see how we go.

I thought the watch was supposed to automatically delete old activites and replace with new ones as the watch memory gets full?

I always connect to garmi connect after every run too.

  • I have a Windows computer that is locked down by my employer/admin (so I can't delete files from the Garmin), and a Mac that only has USB-C ports (and I don't have an adaptor). Is there seriously no way to clear out memory from my Forerunner 245 without connecting to a computer?

  • Hello, I tried this with my Garmin 245 (non music, software v7.10) yesterday, but it made no difference.

Today I got the exact same message after recording a walk.

    Any advice?

  • Garmin uses a standard MTP protocol to connect to a computer. Apple doesn’t support MTP to mount devices as drives like most other OSes do so you’re blaming Garmin for Apple’s shortcomings.

This being said it should be possible to manage the files on a Garmin watch on a Mac with the Android file manager tool (which is kinda ironic). Android phones also use MTP to allow access to the files on the phone through a computer. Since Garmin uses the MTP as well the same tool used for Android phones should work here.

  • Thank you so much for this input. It took care of the issue! I can't believe Garmin's engineers would incorporate hidden files like this. It's almost like they purposely do it and trick people into thinking they need to buy a new watch! Unbelievable! And it also blows me away that Garmin's help didn't mention this solution. Once again, THANK YOU!!
