Steps counter inaccuracy

I would like to mention that the steps counter is inaccurate and misses steps during slow movements-walking e.g. inside home steps, or when the number of steps are only few (less than 10). It seems that it is a software problem and it could be fixed. It could detect the walking patern with more sensitivity. The deviation is about 10-15%.

Thank you.

This is by design and not a software problem.  Your watch will start off at 10 when taking steps.  This is to prevent "false steps" being counted for something as simple sitting on the couch and moving forward to grab the TV remote off the table.  I prefer this much more than when Fitbit counts any movement (including driving) as steps just to make you feel better when in actuality the count was way over inflated.

    The deviation is about 10-15%.

How did you come to that conclusion?  Let's just say your estimates are correct.  Doesn't this benefit you health wise if you're trying to reach a goal?  Wouldn't you agree having more steps taken then displayed is better than being credited for something you didn't do?

  • Thank you for bringing in my knowledge the rule of the "+10 steps".

The matter is not "cheating" with false steps or expanding a goal. It is simple a matter of accuracy, given that it can be achieved, and getting the real picture. It sounds that it could become more accurate as the device surely can support this task. But if we assume that this isn't possible, then I will agree with you and vote for the "extra effort".

Thank you again and happy running...
