Indoor Cycling: Devices compatible to FR 245?

I'm thinking about buying a new indoor bike. Something like:

https://www.sportstech.de/speedbike-sx500

or

https://www.hammer.de/finnlo-indoor-cycle-speedbike-crt-2.html

I'm wondering whether there are bikes that can connect to my FR 245?

As far as I know, I can start an indoor cycling activity but the FR 245 - without GPS - will only record time and HR. Other data (such as distance or speed) has to be added manually.

This leads me to the question if there are bikes that can connect with the FR 245 and transfer data like distance or speed directly to the watch and ultimately to Garmin Connect?

Any help would be appreciated!

  • I have my road bike on a smart trainer. It has a built-in power meter but i started with a dumb trainer so i had to buy a cadence and speed sensor. That connects well to my 245, so does my polar h10 strap. So i have cadence, speed and hr. I get diatance, max speed and so on. works well.

i wrote a blog on my 4iiii smart trainer and i also have other logs to show on how i train using my garmin for cycling.

  • 245 cant connect/record power data from a bike. Not sure if that will influence your decsion.

  • I don't understand German, anyway it seems like none of these bikes is transmitting cadence/speed/power data.

If you have some real bicycle, consider buying some smart wheel-on trainer like Tacx Flow for example which is completely interactive which means Zwift and software like Zwift can control the resistance to mimic the terrain or have some structured workout.

These kind of trainers broadcast cadence/speed/power data so you can use at least the cadence and speed data with the 245 (as I do in my case) and the HR from the optical sensor or HR strap to get the training load at the end of your training...

  • Thank you guys for your replies. I think I will take a closer look at smart trainers ;).

  • I prefer a wheel off trainer, or direct drive as they are called. I think they are more accurate as you dont have to account for tyre pressure, and how tight the roller is against the tyre etc.

  • I completely agree but i have found a cheaper alternative with the fliiiight trainer that uses magnets and no contact. so i do not have to take the wheel off or pump my tires.

look at my blog about it

  • Seems to be right. I have a Tacx Neo Bike. Doesn't work with my FR 245. WTF. Shame on Garmin
