Sleep track very inaccurate

I have been very disappointed with the sleeping track function on the Garmin 245.

The watch is unable to determine when I wake up at nights to go to the restroom for example, it will just show up a light sleep. Also when I wake up due to my baby crying or something, it can take me up to an hour to fall back asleep, and none of this if accounted as wake up time.

I made a test with a wrist band in my other hand from another brand, and the AI in the other is ages better. Just an example, I wake up every day to write in my tablet from 4-5 a.m. In my Garmin waPensivetch is shown as light sleep, with even REM sections during that period!!!Pensive

Naps are not recorded either???!!! Come on Garmin. I come from another brand only because they don't have a cadence sensor yet but the sleep track algorithm is definitely ages ahead.

Is anyone experimenting these same issues? I'm running version 5.2 of firmware.

  • The general inaccuracy of Garmin's sleep tracking and the lack of nap recording are well known issues, discussed here and in other forums at length.

With regards to the former, I'd wait for the upcoming firmware update. Currently, the watch records all the different metrics, and those are uploaded to Garmin Connect. Garmin Connect then has some form of algorithm to calculate the sleep data based on those metrics. In the future, the watch will do those calculations on the device itself based on the Firstbeat sleep algorithm. Hopefully, that algorithm is better and will lead to better results.

The update to on-device-sleep tracking for the 245 was already hinted by DC Rainmaker a while ago and recently confirmed in the forum. The update is in the works, some quirks are still being ironed out. • In fact he unintentionally said that the feature would arrive on the forerunner models, but when asked if it would come to 245 he did not answer. It is really inaccurate and considering that the new recovery pro feature considers sleep it is hard to believe that it will not come to 245.
