My FR 245M is not syncing to phone / Garmin express any more

Hi, I am still on software 5.00

I tried to sync data today through Connect mobile (android) app, but even though my blutooth was turned on, the app was not connecting to the phone (no problems like this ever since 245M came out). I've tried to establish the bluetooth connection by:

1. Resetting the phone
2. Doing a soft reset (Light button) on FR 245M
3. Removing the FR 245M device from Connect app and adding it again
4. Switching off and on the status on the watch "Waiting for phone connection"

No matter what I do, only the first bar of the "completing setup" progress bar gets filled, and nothing happens until failure:



I've connected the FR 245M to my PC and Garmin Express which usually does the sync directly to website, but when i log in to Garmin Connect, there's no data for the past 3 days, no HR / sleep / stress / steps / calories information since last Monday, the last time I had done a sync. So, the watch cannot connect to the android app, but even more curiously, does not seem to sync via Garmin Express for windows either, even though I keep clicking the SYNC button.

  • Have you tried updating Garmin Connect to version 4.36.3 ? (you can check the current version via GC Menu » Settings)

    There were issues with prior versions of 4.36.x leading to HR/sleep/stress/... nog being synced (although activities did sync). 

    The issue was reported for also other watches (e.g. FR45), the update of GC solved the issue on my FR245. 

  • It's running 4.36.3 at the moment, I've removed the app from the phone this morning and re-installed it to try to solve the problem.

    When I think about it, I think Garmin app was updated yesterday or the day before. That would actually coincide with the time when sync stopped working, my last successfull sync was on Monday and I believe Garmin app was updated by the phone on Tuesday or Wednesday.

    Is there a repository of older Connect app versions prior to 4.36.3 that I could install on the phone as a test?

    Before 4.36.3 was released, some reported that rolling back to 4.35 helped. 

    But not sure the issue is the same. 

  • I'll take a look, but surely it's very strange that the watch is not syncing via USB connection to Garmin Express either?

  • Indeed, when the issue appeared on mine, syncing over USB towards Garmin Express seemed to work. 

    So there's a chance that the issue is something else, you could however try the steps described in the post above (tourbleshooting guid) to see if something helps. 

  • I had a similar problem a few days ago, where I couldn't get past the "Completing setup" phase. What finally solved it for me was the following steps in this order:

    1. Remove the watch from the Garmin Connect Mobile app.
    2. Make sure that it is also removed from the Bluetooth settings on your phone (i.e. if it's listed as a known device, tell your phone to "forget" it).
    3. Restart your phone.
    4. Restart your watch.
    5. Try pairing the watch using Garmin Connect Mobile (remember to select Menu > Phone > Pair Phone on your watch).

    I had tried all of the above steps in different orders before without success, so even if you think you've tried it all already, I suggest you try it again just as described. Hopefully it will work for you as well!
