Heart rate starts off too high

I have a 245.

I don't always wear it.

Whenever I put it on my wrist the heart rate starts off high - about twice my normal heart rate - and then starts slowly settling down over a few minutes.

Is this normal?

Not everyone experiences that but it is pretty normal. I also don't wear it all the time so before my runs I just wait calmly for a minute or so, it says that my heart rate is about 90-100 but then after a while it just drops to my normal heart rate and then I start my activity and it reads my HR correctly.
