Incorrect Cadence

My cadence is not recorded accurately. I’m not using metronome, but cadence is showing in red as half of my actual cadence. There are many others experiencing this same issue, but absolutely no information on how to resolve it.How do I fix this so cadence is recorded more accurately?

Thank you!

  • I have same problem, Is anyone here know how to fix it?

  • I get a very small number of spots of obviously incorrect cadence during runs. I don't remember this happening with the 45S I used before the 245M.

It's maybe 5 spots in a 45 min run, but means the Max Cadence is incorrect - eg max=230.

It's like it doesn't even attempt to filter out obviously wrong values?

The wrong spots seem to be equal to around 2x the actual expected value. eg 230 when it should be 115.

  • Hi im curious if someone got the answer already? Im experiencing the same problem

  • Same with my 945 I get 172 cadence when I know I am running 180 I run barefoot and minimal.

  • Exact same issue here. Are you still experiencing this issue, 1 year on?

My cadence switches between 180 and 90 during the run, skewing the average cadence values to 110–130 SPM typically.

I've been in contact with Garmin Support, had several back-and-forth emails, but the only suggestion has been to restart the Garmin. Since then, radio silence. It's quite annoying, as I did used to use the cadence reading to keep my form in check. Historically, it worked fine, then suddenly this issue arose.

  • I have the same issue with my Forerunner 45. In short sections, my cadence suddenly drops to 86-88 or so. Then right back up to 170-180. Not sure why this happens.

Edit: One idea that popped up suddenly is if holding something in your watch hand might cause problems. I often run with the dog, and I usually hold the leash in my left hand, which is my watch hand. This might cause my left arm to move in a different rhythm to my legs.

  • I think the cadence drops downs when you check your watch because in those 1-2 seconds the arm is not swinging like should normally swing in a running activity and the pedometer gets fouled. But I think Garmin engineers should be able to fix this impediment. I'm curious if this problem is also on the other more expensive watches like Venu, Fenix etc.

  • I don't think so, because I would've noticed. Both me and even more so my son are looking too much at the watch while running. But you can also easily test it yourself in a 1 minute run.
