- Watch frozen during the Trail Running ‍♂️ activity with Course & PacePro -

Hello, community. Last Saturday, I had my first Trail Running competition (14km). I decided to use Course & PacePro functionality + was listening for the Podcasts.

Everything went well, until I reached the Finish. Inside the Finish gates, I have hit Start/Stop button, but my FR 245M was unresponsive. Nothing was working, except I could switch light on/off, and Music was still playing.

I have done hard-restart, and after my watch switched on, my activity recorded just first 12km Pensive

I had 4.40 firmware at that time, and never done factory reset for 1 year.

Grey questionAny ideas how to investigate what happened (error log?)? I really want to improve the device experience, as this issue was frustrating.

  • I just did a virtual 5k today with PacePro, (no audio though,) and realized shortly after the first mile that my watch had totally frozen. I did a hard reset mid race, and was able to continue the activity, but it lost all my pacepro plan, all my connectIQ apps, connection to my stryd pod, and the data for a half km while it was frozen. I had attributed it to the 5.0 software update (which I found out had been installed only when I pressed the start button to begin the activity :/ ) but it sounds very similar to your issue.

  • Did either of you have an at least a partial activity file after you had this happen?  I saw a weird hang a few months ago using PacePro where it seemed hung but would come to life every couple miles.  Your activity file might show if your results were similar.

  • Hello. As I mentioned, I had 4.40 that time (now using 4.87 beta). Probably PacePro is unpopular (less tested) functionality, so if we want it to improve, need to risk and test BlushThumbsup
Actually, my question was, is it possible to get some technical error log file, to understand what has caused the crash. Experts, anybody?

  • In my case, from the total ~14km, it has recorded activity only for the first 12km. I assume, that Garmin Forerunner is writing activity from memory by some splits (let's say 1km lap), and mine Forerunner 245, was not able to write the last two segments (missing 2km) to the internal memory.
But for the first 12km, it was done perfectly.

  • I certainly had a partial activity file, because I did a reset and was able to continue the activity after the watch came back up (minus the pace pro stuff, gps, and my Stryd metrics.)

  • I believe any crash info will be in your Garmin\Debug folder.  I've had an issue in the past where they asked me to put that in a .zip file and post it or send it in.

  • I had the same issue with 245M and firmware version 6.2. I had Course and PacePro set up. Navigation was ON. The course was 10k, but I was some way away from the planned end point of the course when I hit 10k (I made a few wrong turns, so the distance added up). The watch froze as soon as I hit 10k. I went on to complete the course and restarted the watch. The activity could be resumed, but as it didn't matter anymore I saved the activity. Luckily, it saved the full 10k done until the watch froze up.

  • Happened exactly to me today in 2022 with latest SW update . Garmin did  nothing to fix this !!
