Elevation Meters while running

Hello!

Can someone tell me how I can see the TOTAL accumulated meters I have climbed on a run either on the watch or Garmin Connect?

I ran a route that has gain of about 160mtr (elevation gain is shown correct in Garmin Connect app) and I ran this 2 times and along the

way between the Minimum Elevation and Max Elevation there were small hills. So I would like to see how many meters in total I climbed

on the run.

Is that possible with this watch?

Thanks in advance, stay healthy everyone!
John

  • The Forerunner 245 doesn't have a barometric altimeter, therefore any elevation gain calculated by the watch would be potentially very inaccurate, especially in scenarios when the elevation change during an activity is not very rapid. And this is why there is no elevation gain data field.

However, once you upload your activity to Garmin Connect, you should see elevation gain as one of the summary elements, calculated using so called elevation correction.

Hi! Thanks very much for your answer - so basically I should take the min/max elevation on the route and make a guestimate for the changes along the route. And then on the Connect, I guess it will depend on the map data in the background to calculate the elevation gain.

OK this is helpful, I know what to do now. Thanks again, all the best!
