Power manager

Does the FR 245 now feature the power manager facility/system? Is it possible for me to set it so that the standard 24hrs battery life increases to 30hrs with the watch using gps the whole time? I am going to be running 100 miles, should be done in 24 hours but it may, with breaks, go on a bit longer. Can the 245 work for me or do I need to buy the 945? TIA

    No.

Very unlikely. Even the declared 24 hours I would call it a stretch.

It might, if you carry a powerbank with you, so that you can charge it during the run.

Thanks for that. I guessed as much. Interesting, a power back - but a bit  impractical though I could keep topping up the power when I stop for 20 min breaks - not healthy for the battery, 20 min charge bursts??

I've sent you one reply to your comment but here's another: bear in mind that all I do is run, what should I get, if the 245 battery won't be enough for me, the 945 or, for the same price, the Fenix 6 Pro, no maps/music/wifi?

  • not healthy for the battery, 20 min charge bursts??

Don't worry about that. It will have no negative impact on battery, especially when dane occasionally.

  • the 945 or, for the same price, the Fenix 6 Pro, no maps/music/wifi?

I'd recommend the 945. It's much lighter which makes a difference when doing ultra runs.

So, might be the answer, a 245 and a power pack, that should give me 30 hrs?? I reckon I'll have 2.5 hours of charging time during the run.

Makes that much of a difference, the weight? I tried a 51mm Fenix 6 on today - yes, weighty but hardly a ton ball and chain to drag along. You'd take the 945 over the 245? the 945 over the F6?

  • Makes that much of a difference, the weight?

That's very individual. More a question of comfort than impact on performance. A bigger guy with heavy arms might not notice the additional weight. I am relatively light with slim arms, so for me it makes a difference.

I would take the 945 over 245, and 945 over F6, unless I would really badly need the additional battery which the F6X Pro provides (at additional cost of money and weight).

Thanks for that tmk2! I believe that the power manager is on the F6 Pro (the 47mm), too?? Plans, I hear, to intro it on the 945 but it's not on there yet. The extra battery life is a plus. Got a 160km run coming up - with walking periods and toilet, water, food and physio stops, the 245's 24hrs wouldn't be enough. 35 hrs gps use should be enough but if I can extend it, it'll give me peace of mind.

  • I believe that the power manager is on the F6 Pro (the 47mm), too??

Yes, but still the F6X provides the longest GPS-enabled battery time of any Garmin wearables, significantly longer than the F6 Pro.

I hear, to intro it on the 945 but it's not on there yet.

    I find it unlikely.
