Run with a walk home cool down, how to separate stats?

I've just acquired my first Garmin watch ( Forerunner 245m ), any other tracking I' ve ever done of my runs have been with my phone. With the phone when I would finish my run I'd stop the run on Runtastic and then Google Fit would then pick up my cool down walk home and map it. So what would you do with the Garmin? Just finish the run and let the watch track the steps without all the extra stats and mapping you get with a walking activity?

I'm asking because I made my cool down walk home into a walk  activity after my run 2 days ago but of course my heart is still racing so my walk looks like it's exhausting me to walk a Km in my stats. Is the software smart enough to realize it's a post workout cool down or is it going to think I'm totally out of shape and adjust to that?

Today I tried a custom workout where the press of the lap button at the end of my run would then change to the cool down portion. Then I stopped it when I got home, great it works and tracks all my stats but it then influences my avg.km/pace, total distance of run etc. Yes I can break it down my times/pace when I get on my computer or phone but I really would just like it to be seperate activities.

So my question if anyone knows if I split my run into two separate activities Run activity followed by a Walk activity does the Garmin algorithm realize I've just finished my run and the reason my heart is racing isn't because I can barely handle a 1km walk but because I just finished running?

Thanks
