Change in type of activity

So, I've had an "run" activiry on connect, and since the 245 doesn't have an open water swimming mode, I've changed this "run" activiry to "open water swimming" mode in "edit activity" just to see what kind of data would be displayed after the change. Only time of activity is left, heart rate, but distance and some other data is "lost". Now, I've changedthe activity back to the "run" and data still remains "lost", there is no distance displayed, etc. So basically, I've changed nothing and data is lost? WTF?

Any way of fixing this?

  • Try the following:

    1. Go to the Garmin Connect website.

    2. Open the activity.

    3. Click the small cog icon in the top right corner.

    4. Select "Export original" and save the file.

    5. Delete the activity in Garmin Connect.

    6. Manually import the file downloaded in step 4.

This should bring back the original run.

Where is this small cog icon in the top right corner? I want to change the activity type of the selected activity "Union County Walking" to Backcountry Skiing, rather than walking, but can only change between types of walking if I click the drop-down arrow next to Walking. I have tried choosing Export CSV and changing activity type there (from Walking to Backcountry Skiing/Snowboarding), then re-importing, but this only achieves an error code and is unsuccessful.

Click the activity name. The activity will open and there you'll find the cog icon in the top right corner.

I want to change the activity type

You don't have to use the cog icon for that. Once the activity is open (see answer above) you can change the activity type without the need to export and re-import. Just click the activity type in the top left corner and there you'll find the full list of activity types.
