FR245M Spotify - Downloading Music error

Hello,

I just bought the FR245M and configured everything. Unfortunately, the Spotify App is not working. I can open it and browse through the playlists of my Spotify-Account (which, of course, is premium). The error happens when I try to download a playlist. It starts to look for a WiFi-Network and then reports "No Connection" (in German "Keine Internetverbindung") after about 10 seconds. Obviously the watch already was connected to the internet, because I could browse through the Playlists and even load the covers.

Here are a few additional information:

  • Software: 4.40 (01d52e3). Updated everything through Garmin Express.
  • I tried it with my home network (private, WPA2) and the Hotspot of my Huawei P30 Pro (also secured). Both didn't work. I configured them through the Garmin Connect app and the watch itself. Both times, I had positive connection tests.
  • My internet provider is Vodafone (Germany) with their own router. There were some posts saying that this could be a relevant factor.
  • It doesn't matter if the Playlist I try to download is big or small. Nothing works.
  • Syncing via wifi doesn't work either (only via Bluetooth).
  • Of course I tried all the basic kinds of troubleshooting (re-install Spotify, restart watch, factory settings, etc.): nothing worked

As I scroll through the forum and the Google results, I see that this problems exists since months. Some of the posts are 8-9 months. It's sad to see that garmin doesn't seem to be able to fix this problem. This is my first Garmin. I paid the extra amount of money to get the music function - exactly the one thing that is not working. If there is no fix within the next month, I'm going to return the watch and switch brands.

Please, Garmin, tell me what to do to use Spotify properly.

Thank you very much in advance

Best regards

  • I think this might be up to Spotify to fix since it's their app anyways.

I use Runcasts for podcasts and there's no connection or sync issues.

  • Moin,

  • Hey! I purchased my FR 245M a couple days ago and am facing the same issue - the watch keeps looking for a WiFi signal when I try to download a playlist/song from Spotify. After a minute or so after I try the download I either get a 0700 or 0200 error, sometimes if I am lucky I would get the 0800 error too.

Currently running on version 4.40 and unfortunately I cannot jump onto the latest beta (APAC model).

I have tried a hard-reset, hotspot connect, the rest and still no luck, have you found a concrete solution for this issue? It boggles my mind that it has been several months since this issue has been reported and there is still no solution.

  • I have been having this issue since i got my watch in July 2021. A forum for almost 2 years ago has helped me fix it.

I followed a work around suggesting to establish a separate a Hotspot to connect the watch to rather than using my wifi. Fix worked with the Hotspot at my mobile phone, using the mobile data.  Then i followed the usual steps to download music from spotify and it seems to be working really well.

  • Oh yeah, still an issue. Bought this watch today, updated it to latest version, spotify latest version, brand new iPhone.

So yeah, it is funny to see them make it part of their sales tactic to say it has spotify support and you can sync playlists on it, and then at least 2 years it's been an issue.

Sure it works in the end after trying to sync the same playlist 2 times, but it's pretty annoying right?
