I do not sleep in the watch but when I wake up in the morning my Forerunner 245M shows Calorie burn. It is not consistent and has even been unusually high. Why?

Because you burn a certain amount of calories while doing "nothing" (like breathing, sleeping,...).
But my question is, how does it determine that baseline and why was it 345 the other morning when I woke up at 6:00 a.m. and 545 this morning when I looked at it at 2:00 a.m.?
It's possible that it's measuring from when I took the watch off because I took it off very early in the day yesterday. But then that would not be respecting the 24 hour day.
