Elevation graph

Hi guys I have a question.

1.When I upload a course, I can see the elevation graph / profile. When I start the activity I can only add the elevation screen where the current elevation is displayed (I guess that is based on gps and course current location). I've noticed friend of mine on fenix 3 has a "current" elevation graph where he can see where he is currently on the graph, so he nows how much ascent / descent we have before the end of the course which is really useful when you're on unknown terrain. This functionality doesn't  require barometer since the course already has the elevation calculated. Is it possible to add this to the forerunner 245?

  • On the devices that support it, this should automatically show up as an extra data screen when you're navigating a course. The 645, 935/945, Fenix, Instinct, and Edge devices have it, and except for the 645, allow you to toggle it on/off. I was just reading some old threads that suggest it never came to the 735XT, which also lacked a barometer. So, while it's technically possible, I think it's something that differentiates models. If you want more advanced elevation features, you need to purchase a model with a barometer.

When it works, it's great. However, if you deviate from a course even just a bit, e.g., taking an unplanned detour or pausing and forgetting to resume right away, you may lose the elevation profile. At least, that's my experience with the 645. It's frustrating when it happens very early in a big hike, as happened to me this weekend. The course navigation itself continued to work, however.
