Battery has started draining very suddenly

I've been using my current Forerunner 245 for about 7 weeks now (I had to replace my first one to GPS issues, which this new one seem to not have at least), and the first 6 weeks I only had to recharge about once a week (unless I did a lot of GPS activity). Lost maybe 10-15% battery a day at most.

Now the last week (or just 3-4 days actually) I've been losing 30-40% in 24 hours, even without using GPS. It seems a bit to sudden of a change to be hardware related in my opinion, so has anything changed in the software that could have triggered this? It's almost as if the GPS tracking is running non-stop, although I have no way of checking that I guess, and I don't think it should ever do that when I don't use a GPS exercise?

*edit* So after losing 35-40% batter in a day once more (with no workouts), I tried just resetting my watch completely (and then fully charging), and it seems to have worked. Did a GPS work out which put me at 91%, and now 24 hours later it's at 83%, so just 8% in a day from regular use (no GPS). I guess some part of the Software just got stuck polling either GPS or Bluetooth or Wi-fi or what ever.

Cheers.

  • Just to check with you if the issue comes back? I'm a new user of the 245M and my copy's battery drains pretty crazy at about 1.5 2%/hour and 1hr running session drops the battery by 10%. After searching it seems associated with the firmware 4.40.

  • No, it's been pretty normal for me. I lose 7-8% a day if I don't do any gps activities. A 1,5-2 hour gps activity takes around 10-12% right now. Try turning the clock off and on, or resetting it. Don't really have any better advice, sorry.

  • Your advice helps. I actually managed to full reset the watch and the battery consumption is much more reasonable now. A 1hr GPS session now costs me around 6 7% and less than 1%/hr for normal use. Not as stellar as yours but I got a lot of things turned on so I won't complain.

  • 1.25%/h without using GPS or Music.

    Is not normal!!
