individual interval training with different time slots

Hi all,

as I already went wrong with another sports watch who doesn't have a (for me) important feature, I would like to know, if this can be done with the Forerunner 245, before I buy it.

After some years rest, I (re)started running some weeks ago and search for a sports watch to configure individual interval trainings, not just 1' run / 2' walk ... repeat.

Example:
2’ warming up
10’ soft running
5’ hard running
1’ relaxing
10’ soft running
5’ hard running
1’ relaxing
20’ soft running
5’ hard running
… etc.

Is this possible with the Forerunner 245? If not, which Garmin sports watch is supporting this?

Thanks a lot for your answer.

  • Yes you can create workouts for the 245.  In fact, I took your example and created a workout with Garmin Connect (web or phone) that can be downloaded to the watch.  Took me just a couple minutes (see graphic below).  The workouts can be simple or complex with many types of elements to control the sections of the workout like distance, time, pace, heart rate, cadence, speed, etc.  Once downloaded to the watch, you can start the workout and the watch will notify you when the next segment of the workout is to begin.

I am currently using one of Garmin's Training plans that supplies a workout plan that is automatically downloaded to the watch.  In my case I'm following a 5k training plan that is customized for a goal time.  It's outstanding!

  • Hi,

thanks a lot for this fast and very detailed response. This is exactly what I looked for. Excellent.
