Ive got a new Forerunner 245m and the battery lasts for about 5days..

I´ve got a new Forerunner 245 music, because the GPS on the other one was defect.

Now Im using it since 26.02.2020 @11o`clock (tomorrow = 5days)

Data:

.) 5days - 100% - 0%

.) 4h3min GPS used (walking)

.) 1h55min NO GPS (workout in the gym)

(so Im using it active approximately ~1h10min per day)

Does 5 days seem to be ok? For my opinion its a short battery life (Fitbit Charge 3: everyday 1h tracking > lasts for 8-10days).

Im disappointed about it Disappointed

  • Sounds perfectly fine to me. 5 days is what I get with mine, depending how much I use GPS and music.

I got 5 days on the first 3 charges, after that it started increasing in length how long the charge lasts. I'm now at a constant 10-11 days, depends on how many workouts I do...

  • How do you charge? Always from 0-100%?

Now it has 2%. I'm waiting for 0 and then I will charge it (first charge should be 0-100?)

    Thank you

  • Hmm as I said, Fitbit lasts much longer. The answer from iNetmann shows, that the forerunner could last longer :0

  • But like I said. It is very dependant in what you do with it. The battery will last longer if you’re not using GPS or using it to play music (on 245M). These will run the battery down faster. They have an excellent battery life, I’m sure mine would last 10 days, but I use the GPS and music on most of my workouts. I also don’t wait until it’s too low to charge it as I don’t want it to die mid workout.

its chalk and cheese compared to the Apple Watch I had before switching permanently to Garmin.

make sure you have the latest software, and shut it down completely occasionally, that can help with battery life.

  • Thank you. Latest software is installed. So I wont wait for 0% everytime and charge it sooner.

  • That sounds reasonable. Although draining from 100 to zero % will re-calibrate the battery meter, in general it is better to not do a full discharge as it strains the battery more. Also they are not meant to fully charge for the same reason. Notice that when charging it jumps from 95% to 100% in one step. If you unplug then (which you should), it will quickly jump back down to 90 something %. If you keep it plugged in another 20-30min, it will trickle charge and stay at 100. Thus the cycle will last longer but the extra strain may reduce the life of the battery if done repeatedly. batteryuniversity.com/.../how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

Mine does not do that.  I often am ready to go and rather than waiting, unplug it at 96, 98, 99% etc.

  • So the "best" should be from 20-80%, but then I will get 2 days? Seems useless than :0
