I've been having issues with my new 245.  The first few runs were ok, but the last few have been horrible.  The distance has been a lot more than what I've actually run.  The first picture is closer to what the correct distance is. In the second picture, I ran the same route but turned around sooner, yet the distance is 4.86 miles when it should have been less than 4.  What's going on?  My previous garmin was the 220 and I never had these issues.  I had the default settings set,

Strange.  The only thing I noticed is that your 2nd photo, shorter run, took more time than the other.  Don't think that should factor in to the distance calculation though? On my next few hikes I will compare distance on my 245 with my GPSMap 66 to make sure they are similar.

I'm thinking I may not have fully locked in a signal before starting the run.  But if I had GPS+Glonass set, would that have been an issue?

  • Sometimes it helps to ‘GPS soak’ get a lock but wait for a few more minutes before setting off to make sure you have more satellites rather then the minimum to proceed. I’m not sure of which GPS setting is better in the US, there’s a lot of debate on whether it’s better with GPS, GPS+GLONAS or GPS+GALLILEO
