Garmin Connect app is useless, when one wants to have notification of useful updates (for runner 245)

I recently switched from Forerunner 230 to Forerunner 245 and found some issues with the Garmin Connect app for Android.

I continuously (almost every week) get notifications about new software updates on my phone app and I have to use Garmin Express on my computer to download and send them to the watch. Before I could get them directly from the phone.
These updates never resulted to be useful. For example, the last update I got changed the language on my watch and deleted all my workouts.
I just checked on Garmin Express and there's an update for the GPS, which I consider an useful update. However, no notification appeared on the Android App.

Just to add to the update frustration, I share your feelings regarding updates to be a pain.

On my vivoactive 3, updates happen through the phone app directly so no difficulty there. However, last update it removed all my settings and personal records - and just now it suddenly starts an update just as I wanted to start a race. (I found that synching to the app right before the run, is essential to avoid it not finding GPS during the run).
