Abnormal wrist heart rate peaks while resting

I have this problem for the last 10-15 days with my fr 245. Wrist heart rate suddenly goes up to 170’s while i am sitting for a few minutes then comes back to 60-70. I check my pulse, there is nothing unusual. I wear the watch as i have been wearing for months, so location of the watch on my wrist can not be the cause. I had the same problem with 4.00 sw. i uploaded 4.10 to see if solves the problem. But i am still having the same problem. Funny thing, connect takes it as an intense training and it completes my weekly intense work outs with false abnormal heart rate minutes.
Anyone has same problem? Do you think i must visit garmin service?

  • Hi,

I encounter same problem since sw 4.10.

This results in incorrect intensitivity minutes.  Even on rest days while lying on the couch is counted as intensitive minutes because of abnormal high hearth spikes.

Before sw 4.10 no issue at all.

  • Same issue, started with SW 4.0. Hoped that the update would fix it, which I thought it did... Until I had HR peaks again (while resting and while cycling (no activity started) or running (activity started)

  • What should we do then? Any idea? Connect app shows my intensity minutes are already 180 minutes. Because wrist HR erroneously showed 170-180 again. What i did was just laying on the couch. There must be a solution for this crazy HRs!

  • Hi,

I think this issue is also affecting some other metrics; body battery and resting heart rate.

Body battery is off compared to before SW4.0.

@ Garmin-Blake: Is Garmin aware of this issue and will it be fixed with next SW update?

  • Hi,

Please sent mail to Garmin support. And hopefully someone of Garmin picks up this encountered issue; or via support mail or via this forum.

Based on my experience solution will follow from Garmin.  Just be patient.

  • Having same issue with 4.1.   I don't think I had this issue with 4.0.  seems to have started 1-2 weeks ago.  Looking to update to 4.2 now and see if this goes away.

I believe my other body metrics are fine.

  • SW 4.2 also is giving the abnormal HR.  I just got the abnormal alert again.

This is happening to me as well! My usual RHR is in the upper 40's, yet my new FR 245 randomly spikes to 125+ (sometimes even 170) when I'm laying around. I've owned three Forerunner models and haven't had any issues until I got the FR 245. I already returned one FR 245 when a strange white circle appeared on the screen.Garmin replaced the watch, but now the new one is providing false Heart Rate peaks. Has anyone found a solution?

I just had this very same issue on my Forerunner 245 Music with the v4.40 firmware. It started after yesterdays' workout. High pulse, that spiked during the night and during the whole day today it made short bursts up to 140-160 bpm just standing upright. I have owned the watch for almost two months now and this behaviour has not been present before. I had some widgets installed, but not sure if that was the reason but I did uninstall all of them, turned of the watch, and then turned it on again. After that it was back to normal again. So maybe there is some glitch baseline detection.

I don’t think it has anything to do with widgets, more so faulty software. I haven’t downloaded any widgets and had the problem again today! Garmin Support basically just told me to turn off the heart rate alert... Not very helpful.
