How can I see # of steps for a specific running event/activity like a 5K? (FR 245 & Android/ConnectIQ)

I have just about every other stat I can imagine but I'm not able to find this one. I start a run, finish it, save it... but hunting through the Android phone app Connect IQ as well as the web interface via browser- I can't seem to find how many steps I took from start to stop for a specific activity like say a 5K.

Where might I find that stat?

Thanks!

  • We do not have a report or metric within an activity that displays the number of steps for an individual activity. The closes will be to view the steps section of Garmin Connect, but I understand this does not offer the specific data you are looking for. I apologize for this.

Try the data field Steps to FIT. It works great for what you're looking for.

  • Thanks! I tried it and sure enough it counts steps during an activity. But the only way I could get it to track that data was if I enable a display field on the 245s specific activity. But if I turn off or change the data field display to something else - steps are retained anywhere I found. So I have to give up precious screen real estate to track it. E.g. if it's not displayed, it's not tracked. But it is a solution if I'm willing to give up some screen space. Worth considering - Thanks again!

  • Thanks for the response and clarifying that.

I'm stunned that Steps isn't one of the most basic or standard activity data fields tracked given the devices design, intent and capability. It would seem utterly trivial to capture that stat the 40 or so other stats captured by activities like running. Maybe I can find a way to make a feature request...

In fact it's even more surprising given that average stride length is computed and provided in Connect for a running activity. I presume average stride length is a function of dividing distance by steps for the activity. And I suppose one could reverse the math and manually compute an estimated number of steps. Still, it would just seem trivial to include steps for an activity.

Again thanks for fast response and consider a feature request to display the # of steps stat as part of activity data captured (as the data is essentially already there and available to the app and website).
