garmin coach semi marathon plan

Hi,

Enrolled for a semi marathon plan, once a week, the coach includes a long distance session.

The distance is now significantly long and longer than the semi marathon distance itself, i.e. next week 27km distance.

I'm very surprised by the distance to cover. Any feedback, experience and recommendation to share?

Thks,

I have had the same issue.  I chose Coach Jeff plan, I'm 12 weeks in and long run distances are just getting silly

  • This thread is over a year old but I'll post here for future readers.

Similar situation here. I'm heading into week 8 using Coach Jeff's plan on a Forerunner 245. My long run today was 12km. Next Saturday the long run is
5min warm-up > 20.92km easy pace > 5min cool-down. The total distance will be further than the actual half marathon I'm training for and certainly doesn't follow the 10% increase in distance that pretty much the entire internet recommends.

I'm going to cancel the workout since I'm not looking to go too hard on my legs mid-training plan and risk an injury. I naively did that when I first started running. Went couch to 5km without issues. Then one month later I did a 10km virtual race with no additional training or increase in my distance. Resulted in an ITB injury and I needed to rehab it for almost 2 months. Not looking to do that again which is the only reason I chose Coach Jeff's plan since he's all about his Run Walk Run® method to avoid injury. Better safe than sorry Slight smile
