Training Status won't shift!

I'm confused by training status. I'm training for a half marathon at the moment. Four runs a week plus a spin class puts me comfortably in the 'optimal' training range. I'm getting faster and feeling fitter, but my 'training status' seems to be stuck on 'unproductive' - or at least it has been for the last ~3 weeks.

What's the deal? Am I just being impatient? Is my feeling of getting fitter just an illusion?! Any tips/insights appreciated!

  • Have you contacted first beat on social media?

Is the new training volume higher than you normally do? I find if I’m running far more miles than the previous week I get the odd run classed as unproductive.

Any other factors that could contribute? Weight? Outside temps?

  • I've noticed the same. I did take a week off and it shifted after my first fun. My guess is we're not doing nothing to improve our vo2 max. If anything we're overtraining which is just as unproductive as doing nothing it seems.

  • Aaand typical: today it switched to 'productive'! Only difference was running in a warmer temperature (15 instead of 5)... Maybe that was the difference?

  • Hopefully that's Celsius

  • Hey Oscar,

Glad you got it sorted out - or more maybe sorted itself out is the better way to say it.

Nice Training Load - when you're looking for help on something Training Status related including your VO2max trend screen is probably a good idea, because Training Status is interpreting a combination of those two elements (TL and VO2max). I'm guessing that it was basically flat during those three weeks (or may have even dropped a point or two?).

Without knowing anymore than what you've shown here - in my opinion an Unproductive status wouldn't be that unusual following a massive increase in TL like you had - going from around 600 to nearly 1800 is a huge difference and puts a tremendous stress on your body. Not surprisingly, it's difficult to get ahead in terms of fitness during something like that because so much of your body's work is going into just trying to keep everything together.

Good stuff and good luck with your program.
