Heart rate zone alerts trigger 1 beat too late

Steps to reproduce:

  •  Open Garmin connect
  •  Select watch, open user setting, open heart rate zones
  •  Make a note of the upper limit of each zone
  •  Create a running workout with an heart rate intensity target (For instance zone 2)
  •  Send workout to watch
  •  Start workout on watch

Expected behaviour:

If upper limit of Zone 2 is 144 BPM then when heart rate reaches 145 then there will be an alert triggered.

Actual behaviour:

If upper limit of Zone 2 is 144 BPM then when heart rate reaches 146 there will be an alert.  This is frustrating because if my heart rate is 145 BPM then I am in Zone 3 but I am not aware of it until my heart rate reaches 146 BPM.  I know this might seem like a trivial point however it means that a large proportion of my run is spent in the wrong zone.

I am using version 4.00 on the watch.

I would report this via support chat however after waiting for over an hour to connect I gave up!

  • I have the same issue but for me it usually goes over my set alert HR with 4 - 5 beats before alarm goes off. I am thinking that this might be a deliberate "lag" so that the alert wont be triggered by short spikes in HR.
