Forerunner 245 Series SW 4.00 is now live

This update can be downloaded with Garmin Express or automatically through Garmin Connect Mobile.

Change Log

  • Fixed an issue with ephemeris downloads over BLE which could cause units to experience slow GPS fix times.

Note: We understand that there are users who have reported decreased battery life since the 3.90 update. There is nothing in 4.00 that addresses this and we would first ask that anyone seeing this symptom perform a hard reset by holding the power button down until the device turns off before charging to 100% again. If this is not successful then you are experiencing an issue that we are actively investigating.

  • I tried hard reset, still draining 1% per hour after update.

  • Those of you who have upgraded to 4.00 SW, have you noticed battery drain returning to normal eventually, or is it still higher after several days of use?

  • I haven't noticed any change (positive or negative) specifically for version 4.00 SW.  That's not surprising based on Former Member's comment about the issue.   What I will say about my personal experience (and has seemed to be an issue since 3.70 SW), is that if I turn the watch OFF and then on and do NO activities, the watch operates as I would expect.  But when I do a run (regardless of how far/long) the drain is very significant.  Not just for the run itself but following the run until I turn off the watch.  What I mean is that after the run, and after it syncs (via BT or WiFi), and the watch has returned to it's "watch" status,  it will lose approximately 1% just every few minutes.

  •  you can count me in the "returning to normal eventually" column, though battery drain is still about 2-4% higher per day than before 3.90.  The good news is that I had the kind of drain that  describes after 3.90 landed, but that mostly cleared up after a series of resets, updates to faces/data fields, and some patience.

EDIT:  now I kinda wonder if I joined the Garmin forum moderation team, if I'd have to change my screen name to Garmin-Bob or Garmin-Barry?  Seems like there's a pattern here!  Grin

  • Did you seriously remove the ability to select "My Music" from the Music Providers? I had to spend my holiday now on downgrading the firmware - I am really pissed off.

  • Would it be possible to add a XC ski activity? I really dislike having to change to this activity later on in the app

  • Seems like it’s taking forever to push activities from watch to phone, could this explain the extra battery drain?

  • Yep, days I record any type of activity (even in the 30-40 minute range) I notice drain is even more pronounced afterwards. Was at 97% this morning, went on a 45 minute hike, took a nap, did some puttering around, and ended up at 70% by lunch.

  • Besides the battery drain and the trouble keeping the bluetooth connection. Im also experiencing trouble with the ANT+ sensor. The heartrate ha drops to around 70 every minute or so, then return to the expected rate for a minute. And the running dynamtics metric only register a few times during each run. This occured once on the 3.90 FW and now happens everytime on the 4.00 FW
