Integration with Edge

Dear Garmin,

I have been using Edge 820 for my bike rides. Since I got the 245 I noticed that the heart rate on the watch is very different from the one I get on my Edge (coming from a chest HR monitor). I tried adding the HR monitor as a sensor to the 245, but it seems that the 245 only reads the data from the HR monitor only if it is tracking an activity. Therefore, in order to get a good HR reading I have to start an activity on the 245. I know it is possible, using the extended display feature, to use my Edge to see some data. However, these data are insufficient (the Edge can display much more) and I dislike the display outlook. A third option is to just start an activity on both the Edge and on the 245, but this cannot be the optimal solution.

Therefore, my question is whether there is some way to use my Edge for my biking activities, but to let my 245 know I am using my Edge and, from the 245's perspective, to make it seem I am using a bike activity tracking from the watch itself?

Thank you in advance.

  • Totally agree and the single reason I opted for the Forerunner 245 and Edge 530 combo is to unify the data. This is currently not the case and the watch simply ignore the more accurate data recorded by the Edge!

  • I have a similar dilemma but use an edge 1030 and the 245 watch. For me, the easiest solution is to set the option 'Broadcast Heart Rate during activity' on the 245, then when I go for a bike ride start a Stair Stepper activity on the watch ( 3 button presses of the same button and it doesn't use GPS) and start a  normal bike ride on the 1030.

The 1030 picks up the accurate HR from the watch, I have all the data fields on the 1030. At the end of the ride, stop the Stair Stepper activity and discard it..
