Hello,

(Please forgive me my bad english).

I have a garmin forerunner 245 and I did a lot of run with it but the VO2MAX is never updating even after multiple run. The last time it update the value it was in August.

Did one of you had the same issue or have an idea of what to do ?

Thanks.

  • Are you running outside and longer than about 15-20 minutes?

Yes, and I use the normal run mode (outside).

  • Why do you think it should change? Have you increased the intensity of your running or volume? Google how to increase your VO2 max for more information.

Because when I finish a run. The watch say in the training effect (Aerobic) : " Big impact on VO2MAX. So I was expecting to see the VO2MAX change (better or worst) but maybe I need to do a lot of run like this...

  • It all depends on what your VO2 level is as well. If your  level is say “poor” it’ll increase quickly as you train. If you have a high or “superior” level, the increases will be slow.

Also depends on your ability, a 65 min 10K runner  does not to need run much to see improvements. A 35 min 10K  runner will need to work hard to see an increase

Research more on VO2. Genetics are very important too.

I'm in the case of a poor VO2Max (41) and I'm a beginner so I was expecting the level to change more faster.

Maybe I should just wait and see if I got some change in some weeks. If not, I will update my topic.

    Thanks.

  • It is best to think long term, months not weeks. Buy a good running book and increase your weekly volume. Race a 5 and or 10K regularly. As you increase your weekly volume you should get faster race times. If you run about 20-40 km a week, try to increase to several weeks of 35-40km. If you already run about that slowly increase the amount.
