Buttons easily jammed & stuck with sweat or salt water.

Hello

I have owned multiple watches & trackers in the past, all doing the same activities, and with lots of sweat & salt water they all get jammed buttons, BUT never so quickly & easily as my new FR 245.

And my previous watches have all been pretty easy to un-stick on-the-go with a quick squirt of water from a drink bottle, and then properly cleaned at home later.

However, with the FR 245 I have to stop my activity and properly rinse and dry the watch several times to fully un-stick any stuck buttons. And I have found that I need to do this multiple times during longer activities. Not so practical!

I have read other posts with others having sticky/mushy button issues, but have not read any solutions yet.

I welcome any insight into this situation.

As a side note: The first thing I noticed when I unboxed the watch (about a week ago), was the non-positive operation of the buttons, and that they all felt slightly different when pushed (e.g Up button clicks when pushed, Down button clicks when released, Light button clicks on the push & release, or at least that's how it feels to me :) ).

Thank you, I am very grateful for your help :)

Mark

  • I have the same issue with mine 245 music. Love the watch butt his annoys me a lot. Only 1 month old.

  • Same thing, no official response from Garmin yet

  • Same thing. The watch would start/stop/start/stop continuously and randomly during runs. And when I wanted to actually stop, the button would stick so I couldn't get it to stop. I contacted Garmin and they told me to soak it in warm, soapy water. That worked for about a week, and then the problem started happening agin, so I exchanged it for a new one. Well. . . just one week with the new one and the same thing starts happening! In the middle of my run today the watch began to start/stop/start/stop on its own. Very annoying and I would love to hear from Garmin on this.

Same for me too. The Light button will no longer take me to different screens (i.e. the screen with my step counter). Only 1 month old. Very disappointed. Garmin is replacing it... but how long til it happens again?

I have returned two of my 245 music watches for this reason. Very frustrating. Otherwise a great device.

I have *considered* some kind of lock oil spray. Although it may work it would probably void the warranty. ;-)

Hello everyone, it just happened to me as well and I only have the watch since 4th of February...

Did anyone received a solution from Garmin?

    Thanks,

    Cristian

Nothing from Garmin. I realised after my 3rd return that I had to find my own solution. What I have found is that the buttons are very sensitive to salt from sweat and sea water. I suggest rinsing your watch  under a running tap after each exercise session. I also found that a jammed button can be released through repeatedly pushing it whilst holding the watch under running  tap water.

this worked for me - completely fixed it. definitely try it!

  • I tried this as well and it worked.   I love everything about this watch, aside from the button locking up!
