Battery drain fast

Former Member
Former Member

Got my Forerunner 245 now for 4-5 days and already had to charge it 2 times.

Yesterday I had it charge full till 100% and now (22 hours later) its already on 43%, almost everything is turned off and in this 22 hours I had 1 run for 1 hour.

Should I contact Garmin? or I need to charge it few times from 0 to 100??

Who can help me?

  • Hi,

Charging from zero to 100 is not necessary, as the battery is lithium ion.

Just for your comparison; my FR245 lasts 5 days including 3 runs of an hour without music and 2-3 hours a day bluetooth on with smartwatch function.

Do you use any 3rd party watch face or app on the watch? If yes, I would de-install it and reassess the battery again.

Your watch is indeed draining faster as described in specs.  I would advise to contact Garmin support.  Did you already performed factory reset (that will be probably the first question they will ask Wink)

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers, Fer

    Hey Dirkb17

I have the exact same issue, even a bit worse, I get about 30~ hours to go from 100% battery charge to 1%.

I followed some of the suggestions in Garmin "Maximizing Battery Life" page:
    https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forerunner245/EN-US/GUID-FA52690B-3D79-4B08-9010-675124116CD9.html

Basically I am running on what might be called "SmartWatch only" mode: Bluetooth continuously connected to just one device (my cellphone with roughly 4 notifications per hour), 8 seconds backlight (without gestures), a very static default watchface (no seconds or HR or steps, nothing dynamic really), no apps besides the default (infact i even uninstalled one), no activities at all, maybe occasional GPS for weather app, no Sleep Pulse Ox, no Move IQ, and using Smart recording interval)

This might not be a "version related" issue because of this 3-months old post:
    https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-245-series/162842/battery-life-245m

    Anyone else experiencing this please?
    Any solutions?

    Cheers.
