Bluetooth range to phone suddenly very dodgy

I have noticed the last week or so that the bluetooth range from my phone to my 245 has decreased quite a bit. I use to get really good range but now very poor. Nothing has changed. Still on the some watch software. Still using the same phone. Any ideas as to what might be causing this or anyone else having the same issue. I used to be able to charge my phone in my room and sit in the tv room with no issues but now the signal drops before I even enter the tv room

  • Hi, I have the same issue as you describe, do you find a resolution?

    Ta

  • I have the same since last August. I suppose this is all related to the Bluetooth unstability - most noticeable with 245 Music (headphones) connection drop outs, but also with Live Track not starting sometimes, lap notifications not played etc. Garmin has been working on fixing this for months with no real progress - just scan through the forum and you'll find so many open topics about the Bluetooth issues.

In the past, i had my phone connected to the watch whereever i moved in my house - nowadays it really only connects if its within a meter or two from the watch. I changed the phone and no improvement.

For me, it started with one of the 4.x firmwares i think.

This is not only frustrating, but it also jeopardizes the security functions of the watch - the Incident detection. I slipped on an icy road on one of my runs, watch correctly detected the incident, but never sent the 'SOS' message because the phone was disconnected. Distance between the watch and phone was less than 1 meter when the incident happened!

Garmin, please - it is really about a time to fix this. How many users do need to report BT issues until you start working on it? Recent fix (with FW 6.20 i think) improved a bit the Live Track auto-start, but it is still 50:50 chance. The beta 6.85 FW shows no improvement as well btw...

  • I have had the same issue now for a couple months and I agree.  Garmin, this is very frustrating.  My watch will only be connected if I have my phone in my pocket and my wrist is at my waste.  If I raise my hand it will literally disconnect.

  • Same here, first time worked perfectly. A couple of month ago the bluetooth connection with my phone was very delcated. Event when the phone is needby it keeps disconnecting. Please can the developer team fix this isue. I tryed also with another phone and the result is the same. Just to be sure that the phone is not the one causing the problem

  • Same issue on my first 245 (slowly degrading bluetooth range until my watch had to be laying on my phone in order to connect), so Garmin sent me a new one because it was still under warranty and no app or firmware updates could resolve the issue.  Now my second one is starting to degrade, so either there is an inherent design flaw or I'm simply unlucky and received two units with some bluetooth component defect.

  • I think it’s a software issue, because in the last version I feel that the connectivity had improved. Never the less, it’s a very poor connectivity because two step forward it disconnects. I’m close range it maintains the connectivity better than before. So I think that Garmin should review better this bug and fix it, it’s not a cheap watch

  • I had the same issue with the Forerunner 245 since I installed the 9.0 version. I'm working from home while I take care of my kids all day - it was one of the main advantages to having the watch with notifications allowed via Bluetooth wherever I move in the flat. The last couple of days have been horrible and I have to have my phone still with me. I restarted everything and set everything from scratch but it doesn't work.
