It should survive sea water exposure without issues, but remember to rinse it in fresh water as soon as possible after finishing the swim.
Also bear in mind, that the FR245 does not have a dedicated open water swimming mode, which means that if you keep it on your wrist while swimming in the sea, you will experience severly degraded GPS accuracy, which will affect speed and distance tracking.
Thank you for your answer!
"It should survive sea water exposure without issues" is not something I can rely on though.
Waiting for a more official response from Garmin staff as this also a warranty topic. If anything happens to my watch (FR245) due to salty water exposure am I covered by the product's warranty?
Contact Garmin Support for an offical anser:
Yes, the FR245 is certified down to 50M. It'd actually be more waterproof than the 9xx Forerunners and Fenix's due to the lack of a barometer that Garmin has had issues with clogging on some watches.

The app website doesn't look amazing but the dev is good, it has been working great for a long time now and I happily paid the $2 for the swim app. I have it set to autolap at 100mtrs and open water mode, it works great and I like that it buzzes every 100mtr, which is handy for ocean swims.
I'm annoyed at Garmin for adding software only restrictions when the hardware is fully capable.
