Expired CPE on a daily basis

Hi all,

Similar question was posted in the 945 forum but I have a 245 and wanted to see if anyone else had this problem.

My first 245 kept having issues with Expired CPE.  I would sync it almost on a daily basis through the app (the max date of not using watch was two days) but the CPE would still periodically expire.  So I would have to manually connect to my MAC, remove RemoteSW folder, then detach and resync the watch again.  It tasted me a week or so and then I would have to repeat the process.  Until this week, it was every day I would have to do this.

So I contacted Garmin and they said it was most likely a chip problem.  Well, I still could return my watch so I returned it and got a second 245 yesterday.  Set it up through Garmin Express, resynced it with the app. Everything was smooth until this AM, when I try to get GPS signal and it is again taking 10 minutes to connect.  So I check and guess what?  CPE is EXPIRED yet again.  Tried to resync with app, nothing, so again, I am manually removing the dag on file through the computer.

What am I doing wrong?  It cannot be that I got two watches with defective chips!  I'm going bonkers and seriously debating returning and giving up on this watch all together.

  • It happens to me as well, but it doesn't take long to find GPS during walking activity.

  • Any resolution here? I have just a 45 and it's doing this. Every time I sync with Garmin connect or Garmin Express it erases good CPE data and replaces it with something that must be old because soon after it takes a million years to connect to GPS. I also have a file that says o_file.err That keeps appearing after syncing open when i open it with a texti editor it mentions the CPE, so I'm assuming it's some kind of error log? Idk.

  • Looking for a solution for this problem as well.

  • I wound up contacting support three times and on the third time they escalated it to their engineers. every time I had spoken to them I had gotten a temporary fix but the problem would come back. GPS would take forever to lock (It never actually locked--I never waited around that long, because I don't have 15+ minutes to stand outside of my house before I run!) Anytime I would sync with Garmin Express or if I did any other type of workout like Cardio. They had me copy my watch files, compress them, and email them. I should hopefully hear back tomorrow or the next day.

  • Have you gotten feedback yet? I am having this problem on my 945 all of a sudden in the last week or two.

  • They wound up just replacing the watch. I shipped my watch back to them yesterday and once they receive it they'll be sending me a new one. This will be my third watch. The first one had issues holding a charge. Here's hoping this one works.
